Walking the Right Way For Your Health

By now, everyone knows that walking for exercise has some unique benefits. For one thing, it can place less stress on knees, hips and other joints than jogging or running. In addition, walking is a good way for people in less-than-ideal shape to begin their journey to physical fitness. Plus, taking a brisk walk down the street or in a park is just plain fun, and gives you the chance to explore the world around you. This is why many Los Angeles personal training programs concentrate on walking.

However, even something as seemingly simple as walking can be dangerous if done improperly. What you might not find out at typical weight loss resorts is that, as with any exercise technique, there’s a right way and a wrong way to walk, and making sure that you follow some basic steps can ensure that you stay healthy and avoid injuries while having fun and losing weight.

Walk with good posture. Just like you learned in grade school, posture is important. Walking tall with your shoulders back and your back arched will work out the most muscles while avoiding straining other muscles.

Walk tall, but not long. Taking longer strides is actually not good for you. Walk with a natural gait, and increase the amount of your steps to go faster instead of the length of your stride.

Get the power from your heels. You can generate all the power you need for fast, powerful strides with your heels. Instead of using your toes (which could strain your arches), push off from your heels to get more explosion in your stride.

Live-in Fitness Enterprise is an exercise boot camp in LA that can help you understand how to walk to get in shape. Unlike your typical California weight loss spa, we want you to gain the foundation for a successful long-term health program. We teach you techniques that you can apply to the rest of your life.
