Gender Issues and Exercise

It would be great if workout routines could be one size fits all. But the truth is that boot camp classes only work if they are designed for the people who will be taking the class. This is especially true with gender differences. There are many considerations that women must deal with when going on a weight loss vacation than men do not need to worry about, and understanding these differences is an important part of the process of getting into shape.

For example, most men are interested in not only losing pounds during a weight loss retreat but also building muscle mass in a variety of areas, including their shoulders, legs and arms. However, the majority of women are not interested in this; instead they prefer to concentrate on weight loss and toning key areas along with building core strength and flexibility.

This is why it’s a good idea for females to focus on programs specifically designed for women. Female teenagers will not only do better at a boot camp for girls, but will also see results more suited to their goals. Circuit training, function strength training and full body training are the types of programs that are most beneficial to women, as they restrict localized fatigue while increasing core strength and flexibility.
