Everyday Exercise
For many of us, the time commitment is what makes exercising largely unappealing. Even finding an extra 20 or 30 minutes to go for a job can be difficult when you’re juggling a full-time career and family. But getting exercise doesn’t have to take up a significant portion of your day. The following are easy-to-implement tips for everyday exercise.
- Pick up after yourself. Floor clutter can be viewed as an opportunity to work your butt and leg muscles. Concentrate on bending your knees and keeping your back straight as you pick things up.
- Mow the lawn. If you’ve got a push mower on hand, break it out—just one hour of mowing the old-fashioned way will torch almost 500 calories.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Even 10 minutes of non-intense stair work with burn more than 100 calories.
- Walk across the office. Instead of using the restroom that’s closest to your desk, make a point of using one that’s farther away. Same goes for drinking fountain. Use it as an excuse to do a lap around the office.
- Workout during commercial breaks. At the end of the day, unwind with the family over your favorite television show, but sneak in sit-ups, push-ups, and lunges during commercial breaks. Invite others to join you.
- Apply some elbow grease. Rather than painting that room you’ve been meaning to paint forever with a paint sprayer, break out the rollers and brushers. Need something mixed in the kitchen? Nix the electric mixer and do the job by hand.
Exercising doesn’t have to be a disruptive activity; there are simple ways to make it a part of everyday life. Of course, if you’re looking to ramp up your fitness in a short period of time and lose as much weight as safely possible, consider a fitness vacation. Unlike “fat farms,” fitness vacations offer a structured, positive environment in which the emphasis is on making permanent lifestyle changes. At Live-in Fitness Enterprise (LIFE), for example, the LA weight loss plan includes both personalized workout schedules and custom gourmet meals, in addition to nutrition education, optional therapy, ongoing fitness testing, and more. At this weight loss camp for teens and adults, health becomes a way of life. Contact LIFE more details.
