Angela Bassett Loved The LIFE At Live In Fitness
When it comes to weight loss and living healthy, everyone can use some help now and then. Getting in shape is hard for everyone, even some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
That’s why Live In Fitness was honored to help Academy Award® Nominee Angela Bassett keep her gorgeous figure when she became one of our clients.
In fact, after letting the LIFE team help her meet her weight loss goals, Bassett described Live In Fitness as “the most incredible experience of my life!” She went on to say that “the program is definitely not for the faint at heart or that person who falls back on excuses. It will push, test you, and exhaust you. But it will also let you know the strength that you possess. Eric is passionate and dedicated to you reaching the finish line. And as someone who’s walked the same road he has a perspective that’s born of compassion.
“If our system can help Hollywood stars like Angela Bassett, just think what it could do for others.
Bassett is a familiar figure for many people in the world. She was born in Harlem, but after her parents broke up she and her mother moved to St. Petersburg, FL. Acting came naturally to Bassett, and she put on shows for her mom even when she was a small child.
She worked hard to make her mark, getting a Bachelors degree in African American studies before receiving a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama.
Before her acting career started, Bassett worked as a receptionist and photo researcher – but that phase of her life didn’t last very long. Shortly after graduation, Bassett was cast in minor roles on television shows including F/X, and then received critical acclaim in the movies Boyz In The Hood and Malcom X, where she played Betty Shabazz. But her big break was right around the corner when she landed the role of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It.
Playing Turner, who suffered mental and physical abuse at the hands of her husband Ike, not only got Bassett an Academy Award® nomination but also led to her being the first African American to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
Several more intriguing movie roles were sent Bassett’s way after What’s Love Got To Do With It, including the extremely popular films Waiting To Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
Then in 2008, Bassett returned to television to play Dr. Catherine Banfield for the final season of E.R. And what many people may not know is that she has also been the voice of Michelle Obama on The Simpsons!
But her busy work schedule has not hampered Bassett’s personal life. She married her husband, Courtney B. Vance, in 1997. In 2005 she gave birth to twins, Slater Josiah and Bronwyn Golden. She has also found time to become an ambassador for UNICEF.
All of this can obviously take a toll on a woman’s body, which is why the Live In Fitness LIFE program was important to Bassett, who got along with the staff and other guests who were there to lose weight, get in shape and finally look and feel as healthy as possible. We’re proud to be considered one of the most incredible experiences in Bassett’s life and hope to retain that status (at least until she finally wins an Oscar!).
Her experience demonstrates that both celebrities and everyday people sometimes need to break their bad habits and get into shape. When you enter the LIFE program, nobody is treated like a diva. Everyone – whether you are Angela Bassett or John Doe – is treated as a respected member of our supportive community, and we all work together to become as physically fit as possible.
